Customers usually choose a pop-up gazebo canopy by its colour. We looked deeper and checked what the material can really withstand. The tests apply to the roofs and walls of all BRIMO pop-up gazebos, which are sewn from the same fabric. Below you will find the results of each test, an explanation of what they mean in practice, and the original reports to download.

Why we had the canopies tested at all
When comparing pop-up gazebos, people mostly look at price, size and weight. But the most important things can't be seen in a photo: how the canopy behaves in contact with fire, how much UV radiation it lets through to the people and goods underneath, and whether it fades after a season in the sun.
That's why we didn't want to convince customers with words alone. We sent samples of the fabric we use to sew the roofs and walls of our pop-up gazebos to SGS laboratories. We publish the results below together with the original reports, whose authenticity you can verify directly with SGS.
Who is SGS and why it matters
Headquartered in Switzerland, SGS is one of the largest and most respected testing, inspection and certification companies in the world. Its reports are recognised by manufacturers, retail chains and authorities worldwide. SGS is independent: its results don't depend on what the client wants, but on what the instruments measure according to international standards.
We tested our material: 500D polyester fabric with PVC coating with a weight of 320 g/m² (±5 %). The laboratory measured 319 g/m² on the tested sample – exactly what we state for our gazebos.
1. Flame-retardant material – class B1 according to DIN 4102-1
Result: PASS – the material meets class B1 (flame-retardant)
SGS report no. AJFTS26002084R01, 14/04/2026, tested colour: black
The German standard DIN 4102-1 classifies building materials by flammability into classes A (non-combustible), B1 (flame-retardant), B2 (normally flammable) and B3 (highly flammable). Class B1 is the highest a textile can achieve. It is exactly this class that organisers of events, markets and festivals often require, especially in Germany and Austria.
To achieve B1, the material must pass two demanding tests.
a) Fire shaft test (Brandschacht, DIN 4102-15 and 16)
1-metre-long canopy samples are hung vertically in the shaft and exposed to a burner flame for 10 minutes. The material passes if, after the test, an average of at least 15 cm of undamaged length remains and the flue gas temperature does not exceed 200 °C.
| Parameter | B1 requirement | BRIMO result |
|---|---|---|
| Average undamaged length – lengthwise | min. 15 cm | 64.0 cm |
| Average undamaged length – crosswise | min. 15 cm | 67.5 cm |
| Max. average flue gas temperature | max. 200 °C | 147.6 °C / 141.8 °C |
| Burning after the test | – | no |
| Glowing after the test | – | no |
| Smoke density | ≤ 400 %×min | passed |
After ten minutes of direct flame, on average two thirds remained undamagedof the one-metre sample – more than four times what the standard requires. As soon as the burner went out, the canopy immediately stopped burning and glowing.
b) Ignitability test (DIN 4102-1, section 6.2.5)
A flame is applied to the surface and the edge of the sample for 15 seconds. If the flame does not reach the mark at a height of 15 cm within 20 seconds, the material passes.
| Parameter | BRIMO result (20 samples) |
|---|---|
| Flame reached the 15 cm mark | not once |
| Highest flame | 4 – 7 cm |
| Afterburn time after removing the flame | 0 seconds for all samples |
| Smoke development | low |
What this means for you: flames do not spread across the canopy. If it is touched by a flame, a spark or a hot object, the fire won't run across the roof, and once the source of the flame is removed, the material goes out by itself. It's about the safety of the people under the gazebo – and a strong argument with event organisers who require flame-retardant material.

2. UV protection – UPF 50+ according to EN 13758-1
Result: PASS – UPF 50+ (highest protection class)
SGS reports no. SL62616340495201 (07/08/2026, blue) and SL62606292519101 (19/03/2026, grey)
The UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) indicates how many times a textile reduces the amount of UV radiation passing through it. The European standard EN 13758 sets the highest class as UPF 50+. The laboratory measured radiation transmission with a spectrophotometer across the entire 290 – 400 nm range.
| Parameter | Blue canopy | Grey canopy |
|---|---|---|
| UPF rating | 50+ | 50+ |
| UVB transmission (290 – 315 nm) | 0,05 % | 0,05 % |
| UVA transmission (315 – 400 nm) | 0,15 % | 1,09 % |
The canopy blocks 99.95% of UVB radiation, which causes sunburn, and almost all UVA radiation, which penetrates deeper into the skin and fades goods. For the highest class, the standard actually allows UVA transmission of up to 5%.
What this means for you:
- traders at markets and festivals can spend the whole day under the gazebo without the risk of sunburn,
- children at sports events, guests at a garden party and customers at a stall get real shade, not just "coloured light",
- goods under the gazebo, e.g. textiles, cosmetics, food or books, don't fade or overheat from direct UV.

3. Colourfastness to light – ISO 105-B02
Result: PASS – grade 5
SGS reports no. SL62616340495201 (07/08/2026, blue) and SL62606292518501 (19/03/2026, grey)
The sample is exposed to the light of a xenon lamp, whose spectrum is closest to real sunlight. Next to it, blue wool references of known fastness are exposed on a scale of 1 – 8. The assessment determines which reference the canopy "survives" without a visible change in colour.
| Colour | Requirement | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | min. 5 | 5 |
| Grey | min. 5 | 5 |
What this means for you: the canopy colours stay vibrant even after long exposure to the sun. A gazebo with your logo in your company colour will represent you for several seasons, not just at the first event.

Under SGS rules, laboratory results apply to the tested sample, which is why we state the colour each test was carried out on.
BRIMO pop-up gazebos: a quality canopy is only the beginning
A certified canopy is important, but a gazebo is a whole. That's why we designed everything else with the same care:
- You can set it up yourself. The scissor frame unfolds in a few minutes – one person, two at most, is enough. No assembling poles and no tools.
- A range you won't find elsewhere: 8 sizes from 2 × 2 m all the way to 4 × 8 m and 7 colours. Sizes 3 × 3, 3 × 4.5 and 3 × 6 m are available in four models.
- Sturdy legs: depending on the model, a 32 mm square or 45 mm hexagonal profile.
- Comfortable height: walk-under height of 205 cm (SUPER and EXCLUSIVE models), PREMIUM models up to 215 cm.
- 5-year warranty for consumers.
- Frame parts available for 10 years. If something gets damaged after years, you don't throw the gazebo away – you just replace the part.
- Printing with your logo: vinyl printing in about 3 working days, in express mode even in 1 day. With sublimation printing, we sew the entire roof or walls in your design.
- Fast delivery: orders placed by 3 pm are dispatched the same day if the gazebo is in stock.

How to keep the canopy's properties for as long as possible
Even the best material needs proper care:
- Don't leave the gazebo folded up wet for long. After the event, open it up at home and let it dry.
- Don't overstretch the canopy. The roof tension is provided by the frame, not by extra pulling.
- When carrying it, make sure the folded frame doesn't press on the canopy. This prevents abrasion.
- Fold the gazebo in strong wind and storms. A pop-up gazebo is designed for mobile, not permanent shelter.
- Clean it gently: with lukewarm water and a neutral detergent, without solvents or a pressure washer.

Frequently asked questions
Is the canopy non-combustible?
No, no textile is non-combustible – that is class A, which includes, for example, stone or glass. The canopy is flame-retardant (B1): flames don't spread across it, and once the source of fire is removed, it goes out by itself.
Can I show the report to the event organiser?
Yes, download the report above or write to us and we'll send it to you by e-mail.
Do the results also apply to a printed gazebo?
The canopy material itself was tested. The logo print was not part of the tests.
Does the gazebo also protect against rain?
Yes. The PVC layer makes the canopy waterproof. The roof protects against sun and rain during the event.
